Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world....
from The Second Coming, William Butler Yeats, 1919
The middle of the road is all of the usable surface.
The extremes, right and left, are in the gutters.

15 Things Conservatives Say Democrats’ Election Bill Would Do

Good ideas from Republicans.
Yesterday I praised Democrats for passing HR 1, the "For the People Act," in the House. I think there are plenty of good ideas in this bill that strengthen voting rights for the American people.
On the other hand, Republicans have some reasonable objections:
- Maybe same day registration would be too much of a burden on local precincts.
- Maybe we should require a photo ID to vote if we can figure out a way to make sure this does not deprive some citizens of their constitutional right to vote.
- Maybe we should not reduce the number of members on the Federal Election Commission from six to five to avoid having one party dominate the group.
So, let's have the Senate come up with a counter-proposal and then Congress can get to work on reconciling the two versions. Wouldn't that be good?
